Lent is Here and Friendship

So Lent has officially started today. Its Ash Wednesday now :) I haven't gotten my ashes yet but I have not gone to Mass yet today. My family and I will be going tonight though after dinner. Lent is a time for offering up sacrifices, doing little acts of kindness but most of all it's about growing closer to God. Of course you can grow closer to God any time! It doesn't have to be in the season of Lent. By now we're in the third month of the year and to a lot of people life is probably already rushing by and you're probably wondering where the time went. I know I am! With school and a few extra activities life has been busy lately and it's sometimes rather exhausting. But once again that's what Lent is for. A time to step back and try and focus on God. A time to focus more on praying. Its hard to do and it takes time but eventually you will get it. You fall and you just gotta get back up again. Like I told a little girl I know (I believe she's 8) when my sister and I went ice skating with friends  this past Saturday, like they say with horse-backing riding (and lots of other things too) if you fall you just have to get back on and ride.

So I've been thinking about doing a post on friendship lately and so I finally decided to buckle down and do it. I know its been a while since you've seen a post from me but hey, I'm never sure what to write :P Lame excuse okay, I know. But lets get onto the post (I'm gonna say right off, this will probably not turn out how I've been thinking it will).

True friends are the people who are always there for you and never let you down. They are a true blessing; a gift from God. I honestly don't know what I would do without my best friends because they are truly special and wonderful to me. They've helped me through all the ups and downs I have. Most are like sisters too me and I love that extra special bond that has grown between us. First you get the bond of friendship and if it's meant to be that bond is strengthened into something lots stronger. Lately especially I've felt like with two of my best friends that our bond has grown especially stronger because they helped me through a tough time. One of them (my pretty much life long BFF) I got to spend one entire horrible day with. My younger siblings and myself had to go spend the day with them. Her family is really amazing. I hung out with my BFF and her older brother and it helped me because I felt so happy and was able to push my sad feelings away for most of the day. They  made me laugh and smile even though I didn't really want to do either if I had dwelt too much on my sad feelings. My BFF was there for me the entire day and I know she was. My other BFF let me bug her by calling her every day that whole week except for the last three days because I actually saw her all three days in person. She helped me through it by making me laugh, making me smile and just feeling happy. One phone call was basically spent with my laughing hysterically over whatever my BFF and her sister were laughing about on the other end. So friends that true are never worth loosing and will always care for you. They love you a lot and know exactly how to make you feel better. Are there to listen to you if you want to talk, are there if you need to cry. They are just a phone call away. A true friend would never turn down the chance to talk to you that's just not what friends do. The definition of 'friend' is someone you like and enjoying being with and a person who supports someone. Other synonyms for 'friend' are 'soul mate'and 'bosom friend' and I am sure there are more out there. There are many good quotes out there that some up friendship a few of which are:

"Good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them…your smile, your hope, and your courage."

"“Best friend” isn't just a name. A best friend is someone who’s there for you, no matter what. You can trust them, with anything and everything. Best friends share tears and laughs, almost like their emotions are intertwined. Most importantly, you can always count on a best friend."

"A friend is someone who can see the truth and pain in you even when you are fooling everyone else."

So, true friends are the best things in the world and can never be replaced. Harsh words can ruin friendships so never speak words that you will regret afterwards. The gift of a friend is truly something to treasure. It's a blessing from God.
